Vital Latics Top 50 - Andy Liddell

Vital Wigan members and posters have produced a Latics Top 50 Footballers list and there are some great players on that list and their names really do conjure up some fantastic memories. The members of Vital Latics have also created some very unique pen-pictures of their hero's, these are being published in no particular order:

Andy Liddell

October 1998 was the time when Wigan Athletic signed Andy Liddell from Barnsley. It may well have been the best spent £350,000 in the clubs history.

Liddell was magical for Wigan, achieving player of the season status in the following season and scoring some memorable goals. Surprisingly, it is still the penalty kicks he used to take that stand out as the most memorable to me.

If Wigan got a penalty, there was never an ounce of fear from the stands, you just knew Andy Liddell would score. With the little shimmy to send the keeper the wrong way and then calmly sliding the ball in the other side, it was magical to watch him play.

We had the fantastic shots and goals as well, all in a spell that would see Andy Liddell become a Latics Legend.

Liddell was Latics longest-serving player when he left to for Sheffield United in 2004. We have had some brilliant football players, Andy Liddell is one of the best.
