Martinez Wants Three New Signings

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has identified the need to bring in three new players to the squad, this despite losing five players at the end of last season, though the returning Mauro Boselli from a season long loan and the emergence of young keeper Lee Nicholls could be counted as being new additions to last seasons squad

With experienced campaigners Hugo Rodallega and Momo Diame now gone Martinez says he feels that we need at least two players who have been around a bit, he also says that a younger player is also needed

Speaking to the Latics official website Martinez said - 'I do feel as though we need at least two players with experience and a younger face which will help make the perfect number for the group.'

This news will probably disappoint some of the Latics faithful who were expecting up to five new players coming through the arrivals lounge at the DW, the team that finished last season so impressively obviously needs to be given the opportunity to continue their form into the new season, but some strength in depth is needed if we are to avoid scrapping around in the lower reaches of the Premier League again.

Martinez does like to keep his cards close to his chest where potential signings are concerned and with the uncertainty surrounding Victor Moses, Arsenal have now apparently joined the chase for his signature, I'd be very surprised if we only saw three new faces signing on for the new season

I am not dissapointed, 3 would be enough, remember we had Dicko, Redmond and Golobart coming back from brilliant loan spells so these 3 will be around the squad. We also have Callum and Nicholls who are both highly rated. 3 will easily be enough, a attacking mid, defender and a young right back. Stam is gonna be great next season so I hope he stays!
