Vital Latics Top 50 - Hugo Rodallega

Vital Wigan members and posters have produced a Latics Top 50 Footballers list and there are some great players on that list and their names really do conjure up some fantastic memories. The members of Vital Latics have also created some very unique pen-pictures of their hero's, these are being published in no particular order:

Hugo Rodallega
Appearances: 112
Best Moment: Scoring the goal to secure Latics safety in the Premier League on the final day of the 2010/11 season against Stoke.

Hugo joined Latics from Mexican club Necaxa in January 2008, it would prove to be one of our greatest signings in our Premier League era.

Hugo's career with us so nearly got off to the perfect start in his first match, against Liverpool, with a 25 yard freekick smacking against the crossbar. Despite the ball not ending up in the back of the net, the shot was a sign of Hugo's potential and what future lay ahead for him at Wigan.

From that first match to his last against Wolves on the final day of the 2011/12 season; Hugo has installed himself as a Wigan legend, becoming Latics' record Premier League goal scorer and producing moments of sheer magic.

Perhaps his most spectacular goal came against Villa in Roberto Martinez's first game in charge with a spectacular half volley from just outside the penalty area being smashed past Brad Friedel. Hugo has scored crucial goals in the most crucial and important games, such as in the landmark victories against Chelsea and Liverpool and, of course, his survival clinching goal against Stoke.

Quite appropriately Hugo's last great moment for Latics mirrors his first shot back in 2008 against Liverpool, only this time his 25 yard freekick, against QPR in January 2012, was smashed into the back of the net.

Hugo has left Wigan fans with some of the greatest of memories.

His last shot hit the post against Wolves. Like him, but the woodwork stopped him scoring many more goals
