Vital Latics Top 50 - Mike Pollitt

Vital Wigan members and posters have produced a Latics Top 50 Footballers list and there are some great players on that list and their names really do conjure up some fantastic memories. The members of Vital Latics have also created some very unique pen-pictures of their hero's, these are being published in no particular order:

Mike Pollitt

When Mike Pollitt signed from Rotherham in 2005 after our promotion to the Premier League, little did we know that we'd signed a goalkeeper who would become one of the most loyal servants in our clubs history. Such is his experience, knowledge and loyalty, four Wigan Athletic managers have deemed him worthy of a place in their teams.

Originally signed as back up to John Filan, he went on to prove himself and earn a place in the starting 11 for our first major cup final. This came on the back of one of the most impressive goalkeeping performances ever seen for Wigan Athletic vs Arsenal at Highbury in the Carling Cup semi final. Unfortunately his appearance in the final was cut short due to a hamstring injury.

Despite the arrivals of Chris Kirkland, Vladimir Stojkovic and Richard Kingson, Mike Pollitt has outlasted them all. Having recently extended his contract for another year to provide backup for Ali Al Habsi, Wigan fans will always be grateful to him for showing the loyalty that has meant he is the only player in the current squad that has featured in every season since promotion to the Premier League.
