Latics Ready For Next Phase Of Preseason

Wigan Athletic are ready to tackle the next phase of their preseason programme when they head off to Austria this coming Sunday

Following a successful week of high intensity training in Sweden the Latics squad returned to Christopher Park this week to continue with the physical demands of preparing for the new campaign, now its time to start to get a grip with the tactical stuff

Latics boss Roberto Martinez, speaking to Latics Player, explained that this stage of preseason will see the players go through tactical workouts, there are three games scheduled for next week, including a high profile clash with Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, Martinez says that the Austria trip will be totally different to Sweden

Speaking to Latics Player Martinez said: 'Now we get ready for Austria, which will be a completely different trip to Sweden; it'll be more of a tactical workout with three games scheduled whilst we're there.

'The physical volume that has gone into the bodies has been excellent so far and now we can start to approach the tactical element of the work more.

'It's a very important part of our pre-season preparations and once we return we'll be ready to step it up even more as the new season approaches."

Latics midfield man James McCarthy is looking forward to the Austrian training camp, the Republic of Ireland international says its good to away with the rest of the squad, he told Latics Player: 'The trips are always good.

'When you go away on a pre-season tour you get to mix with the boys and you get to see what other countries are like and my favourite thing about that is getting to try all of the different foods.'

As always Vital Latics will bring all the news on the training camp and the three friendlies
