Wigan Athletic striker Mauro Boselli has returned to the club with renewed focus says Latics boss Roberto Martinez
The Argentine striker never settled at Wigan following his record busting transfer from Estudiantes in July 2010, after just a handful of appearances he was allowed out on loan to Genoa during his first season with the Latics, the next year he spent the full season back at his former club in Argentina!
Boselli was highly rated around the world and when the Latics secured his signature it was seen as something of a coup, Manchester United were apparently close to signing him at one point, but due to a number of circumstances he couldn't reproduce his goalscoring form that he'd shown in South America and with just one goal in the Carling Cup and none in the Premier League his confidence clearly drained
My lasting memory of him was the penalty miss at West Ham, brought on as a 61st minute substitute with the Latics chasing the game at two nil down, Boselli was almost immediately given the chance to get the Latics back in the game when we were awarded a penalty, unfortunately a very nervous Boselli struck a poor under-hit shot that Robert Green had no problem saving, the confidence, what was left, just evaporated
As previously said, Boselli was off to Italy with Genoa shortly after the West Ham game, the following season he was back home in Argentina with Estudiantes leaving everyone wondering if he had any sort of future with the Latics, well he's back, full of it and raring to go
The Bos has got a Mrs Bos having married his fiancé, he is apparently a lot more settled having his family with him and he has hit the ground running in the friendlies, scoring in each of the three games whilst in Austria.
Martinez is thrilled, maybe he will see his gamble in bringing the South American hotshot to the Latics finally pay off this season, time will tell, but for the moment he is really pleased with his number 9, speaking to Latics player Martinez said: 'What pleases me more than anything, he's come in with a real focus, he's been working really hard'
'We all know that if we can get Mauro fully fit and full focused we have got one of the best goals scorers in the game, he is working towards his full potential'
