Chimbonda To Leave By Thursday

Chimbonda To Leave By Thursday

Wigan Athletic's French international defender Pascal Chimbonda seems to have had yet another change of heart and could now join Tottenham Hotspur by Thursday's transfer deadline.

Chimbonda has reportedly made threats to sue Wigan Athletic if they do not sell him to Spurs, who have reportedly made an improved offer closer to the £6 million valuation placed on him by Paul Jewell and Dave Whelan.

Jewell said: 'I don't know what Pascal is thinking, one minute he thinks he is staying, the next he might go. My stance hasn't changed on it, I want him to stay, I would love him to stay, but he has to want to stay. If no one comes in with the money for him, he is not going anywhere.

'What Pascal did at Highbury last season has been well documented, but that is not the issue any more. The issue now is whether Pascal wants to stay, and if he does he's more than welcome. It's one thing a club wanting him and another coming up with the money. If you see a Rolls Royce in the car park, you can say you want it, but you've got to have the money to pay for it.'

Tottenham Hotspur have recently also made 'derisory' bids for Stuart Downing from Middlesbrough. They seem to work on the theory that if you get a player cheaply then any offer above that should be accepted because 'You are making a profit'.

Expect an offer of £5 for John Terry of Chelsea next, after all they got him for nothing so £5 is all profit.

Or you could lose all the money and have an unhappy player in your reserves that would work well.

This is a situation whereby if a club wants a player badly enough then they have to stump up the asking price. Is Chimonda worth £6m? probably not - who knows? Maybe in time. Was Carrick worth £18.6 M? Again probably not but that is what Spurs asked for him and Man U wanted him badly enough so they paid the price. I think if we want him that badly then we have to do the deal at the price the selling club wants. Andy - A Spurs Fan PS. Good luck for the rest of the season The Latics - I hope you do well - Paul Jewell is a top bloke

I have to say, we are not doing ourselves any favours by *****ing off sundry other clubs with high profile "bids" Hard to understand when Levy & Comoli have a reputation for shutting up, getting on with it and announcing deals only when done. My conspiracy theory is that these rumours are being leaked by agents and/or the other club as a means of getting Spurs a chelse-like reputation for arrogance. We are clearly seen as a potential entrant to the new "Top 5" and there is no interest from those above or below in letting that happen. Spurs need to ride this out, walk away from all the crap coming out of Boro - Downing ain't worth that much anyway - and concentrate on bedding in the current squad plus whoever we get in the next couple of days. Trouble is, when you sell Carrick to a desperate ManU for a vast amount of money, everyone else wants a slice of the proceeds by bidding up their own players. Maybe just shutting up and paying the price for Chimbonda would help matters, though against that argument is the fact that, if we get Mido for £3.5m, we will have toughed out all the ********* from Roma over the summer. Such is the challenge of trying to break out of mid-table mediocrity.......!

SonicBorg you are the kind of fan who gives Spurs supporters a bad name - did you watch this chap play last year?- he was absolutely awesome and made the premiership team of the year. You have no clue about football so why bother making totally inept and inaccurate statements like the above. You are also a total pratt for ridiculing Wigan who are a well run family club and testimony to the English game. Your playground my dad is better than your dad childishness is just an embarrasment so go back to school where you belong. Andy - an irriate Spurs fan

I dunno if Pascal is worth £6m! Its fair enough that maybe Wigan value his services at that but in the grand scheme of things there is no way he is worth that. Carrick is barely worth £10m let alone £18m and Man Utd were stupid enough to pay it but Spurs arent stupid. Levy has prided himself on business in the best interest of Spurs. Wigan seemed to have got sucked into Chelsea-isms of "if the club that bids for our player is bigger than us, they should pay over-inflated prices for our players". Get real Wigan!
