The Ram Is Here - Wigan Athletic

Its been a quiet summer so far in the arrivals lounge at the DW Stadium, but last Thursday the club officially announced the signing of Real Mallorca defender Ivan Ramis

The 27 year old appears to have been Latics boss Roberto Martinez's main target this window, he got his man despite speculated interest from both Sunderland and Aston Villa, West Ham though appeared to pose the main threat to the capture of Ramis, Martinez stepping in at the 11th hour to convince his compatriot that the North West of England was the place to be rather than the East End of London.

Ramis made his first appearance in Latics colours last Sunday, ironically against Mallorca, playing 44 minutes and 35 seconds of the first half, before being replaced to a rapturous ovation by the Wigan supporters, he had a very steady debut, looked comfortable on the ball, cool under pressure and strong, very strong

First impressions would suggest that we have got ourselves a very decent defender, he impressed me and also he impressed Martinez, the Latics boss said - 'I've been very pleased with Ivan; at how he's settled in to life at our club and with his performance on his debut'

'After a long drawn-out week of negotiations it was important for him to be able to play 45 minutes and do so looking composed and experienced - he's got a very bright future with Wigan Athletic.'

According to one of my sources should Moses go the quality of our recruitment will increase dramatically.

I won't bore everyone by repeating who I think we'll sign! Let's hope Ramis lives up to his reputation. He certainly seems a loyal and strong character, which is a great start!
