Wigan Athletic The Premier Leagues Local Club

Wigan Athletic have been declared the Premier Leagues local club, with 65% of Latics supporters living within the same postcode (WN) as the club itself

A survey carried out by Estate Agents 'Rightmove' showed that whilst the Latics were top, Manchester United, unsurprisingly I here you say, were bottom with just 9% of home fans sharing the Old Trafford postcode

The table, according to Rightmove director Miles Shipside also identifies that clubs like United and Liverpool to some extent have a large proportion of bandwagon jumpers, people who follow clubs just because they are successful, Miles say`s: "Our study shows that when a Premiership club plays at home, that isn't always the case for its fans.

"As major clubs like Manchester United have grown their national - and even international - fan base, the overall proportion of their fans living within the same postcode as the team's home stadium has decreased.

"With the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool at one end of the table and Wigan at the other, there certainly seems to be a correlation between historic success and placing in the Local Fans League Table. Although at least this means that the majority of Wigan fans can get quickly back to the comfort of their own homes on a Saturday afternoon when results at the DW haven't gone their way."

Rightmoves survey also showed that the cost of watching the Latics at the DW Stadium is quite low in comparison to other Premier League clubs, taking into account the cost of tickets, travel and fuel, you can get over two seasons worth of Wigan`s finest for the same price of just one at Anfield
