Deadline Day Deals

Deadline Day Deals

There are a number of rumours regarding Wigan Athletic flying around as the Transfer Deadline approaches at midnight tonight. Here is a summary of the possible moves in order of likelihood.

Update 4 - Rumour that we may be about to sign Portsmouth striker Svetoslav Todorov, but only if they sign Jermaine Defoe first. I think that's in the believe it when I see it category.

Update 3 - Kavanagh joins Sunderland for £500,000 on a 3-year deal.

Update 2 - Kilbane joins from Everton on a 3-year deal with option of a further year.

Update 1 - Wigan and Spurs have agreed a fee for Chimbonda according to the official site.

Chimbonda is now at White Hart Lane discussing personal terms. This could finally be over!

Kevin Kilbane to join The Latics for £750,000 from Everton.

Left-sided midfielder Kilbane has reportedly left the Irish training camp to have a medical at The JJB Stadium.

Pascal Chimbonda to finally join Tottenham Hotspur for £5 million.

I believe it when I see it but Spurs have reportedly agreed a fee of £3 million up front and a further £2 million based on performance/appearances.

Graham Kavanagh to join Sunderland.

Kavanagh was Roy Keane`s understudy as defensive midfielder in the Irish international side and a similar player to Keane in a lot of ways so I can see this as a possibility. We do have a lot of midfield options so it wouldn`t be a great loss. Kavanagh is reported to have left the Irish training camp to have talks at The Stadium of Light.

David Connolly to join Sunderland.

Connolly played alongside Roy Keane in the Irish international side so I can see why this rumour has come about, but as we are short of strikers I can`t see this one coming off unless we get a couple of good quality forwards on board in the next few hours.

Was surprised about the Kavanagh one and you bringing in Kilbane and Todorov (though the Todorov one I'm surprised from looking at it from a Pompey view). The others seemed to make some sense to me.

You've done very well getting Toddy in on loan, he's looking sharp and is sure to get you goals. Don't necessarily bank on signing him if he does do really well for you though, he's very committed to Pompey and the fans love him! Hope he does a good job for you anyway.

Can't believe Harry Redknapp has given you Toddy on loan. I would prefer Toddy to that old sad git Andy Cole any day of the week. Don't expect to keep him tho. I guarentee he will be back at Fratton Park within 2 months. He will re-call him after the $hit we give him next week. Toddy will be so disapointed going to you. Its not the players or the stadium, its the fans. He won't know whats hit him when he plays the forst game. We are the best and loudest fans in the land. He will hate it there. Harry will have a few songs sung about this next week. He won't hesitate to bring him back.

Latics v Brighton - Big Game Preview

Latics are back at the DW Stadium this afternoon following a very creditable draw on Tuesday away at Leeds, the game extending our unbeaten run to four, which must give us something of a platform to build on as the season is starting to take shape.

Brighton are flying high at the moment, currently 3rd in the Championship with just one away defeat, Newcastle at St James's Park and they have players, especially in attack, of exceptional quality at this level.
