'If It's Football, It's Vital'

What The Bosses Said - Forest 1-4 Latics

Wigan Athletic travelled to the City ground last night for a Capital One Cup game against Nottingham Forest and came away with the victory that takes the Latics through to round three.

Following the game, which saw the Latics beat Forest for the first time, both managers spoke to the media, let's take a look at what they had to say:

Latics boss Roberto Martinez - 'Overall the performance was exactly what we wanted and the players that were desperate to play really showed what they can do.

'We have got a very competitive squad and we want to win every game.

'To do that you need a squad of players that is ready to take on every challenge and I think those players showed exactly that.'

'We knew it was going to be a difficult evening because I feel that Nottingham Forest are trying to build something special for the future.

'What pleased me most was that when we went down to ten men we knew how to react to it and we knew how to stop the threat and stop Forest from getting another goal.

'The history of the fixture always plays in the back of your mind, especially when you are coming into a ground like this with all of the history it has.

'We've never beaten them before and it is a nice box to tick.'

Forest boss Sean O'Driscoll - 'We said to the boys afterwards that this is the type of football we want to play. That is where we want to be. But that is going to take time. We have to work on that day in, day out.

'Their movement off the ball was so impressive. It was difficult for us to mark them. But we worked hard and that should stand us in good stead.'

He'll get them up in a few seasons. He's got a decent long term vision for the club
