'If It's Football, It's Vital'

What The Boss Says - Manchester United v Latics

Wigan Athletic travel to Old Trafford tomorrow (Saturday) to face Manchester United, Latics boss Roberto Martinez has been bemoaning the fact that he's had several key players away on international duty this week, not a 'healthy position' say's Martinez, referring to not only having players away during preparations, but also one or two returning with injury niggles

Let's take a look at what he had to say - 'I don't like the international break, I've said it many, many times'

'This is another example. We've got 48 hours to go to one of the biggest games of our league competition and we don't even know what kind of squad we can count on. That's for ourselves, that's for Manchester United.

'As a whole, I don't think that's a healthy position for any team to be in when trying to put on a good display for the fans in what we consider to be the best league in the world.'

'We want our players to play for their countries because it's great for us as football club and it's great for the players as it's a unique experience, but it's an area we need to look after the players and understand if you're going to fly for 10 hours, 48 hours before a proper game in the Premier League, it can't be the right preparation.'

"The last seven visits to Old Trafford have been a real uphill task for us; 24 goals conceded and one goal scored, from the penalty spot, tells its own story.

"It's important that we get ready for the event and the occasion because playing at Old Trafford can affect your play and we can't allow that to happen.

"The last time we played Manchester United showed that we can match them on our day and we need to make sure that together with the new players in the squad we're mentally strong to try and do the same again and be the best Wigan Athletic side that has travelled to Old Trafford."

The break's given Beausejour and McArthur half a chance to get themselves 100% though
