With the Manchester United game fast approaching I thought it would be a good time to have a quick scan (pardon the pun) over our injury concerns ahead of the game
James McArthur appears to have used the international break to great advantage and he should have finally shaken off his niggling back strain that has seen him struggle to complete games this season.
McArthur said this week - 'The international break has come at a perfect time for me because I've needed this bit of time to get my back better and make sure it is going to be right for the rest of the season' and with reports suggesting that he is now 100% fit that's good news on at least one front
It would appear that Jean Beausejour is touch and go, the Chile international left the last game, against Stoke, with just 28 minutes on the clock, the news was he'd tweaked his hamstring, scans later revealed he had a slight tear
The left wing back has been receiving intensive treatment all this week in hope that he will be fit to play, but Martinez isn't overly confident, the Latics boss say's - 'Jean's been reacting well to treatment but he's still a big question mark for Manchester United, we'll have to assess his condition right up to the last minute.'
The latest player to go down with an injury is Antolin Alcaraz who has suffered a groin strain whilst playing for Paraguay, he had to be replaced on 60 minutes in the game against Venezuela on Tuesday and he is unlikely to make the starting line-up tomorrow, Martinez said - 'Antolin still hasn't been assessed or had a scan so we don't know the extent of the injury. But it sounds as though it will be difficult for him to be ready for Saturday as it stands.'
Another concern is Maynor Figueroa who is only due to return to the UK late this afternoon, but Martinez usually plays his cards close to his chest where team selection is concerned, with the defence giving him his biggest worries I'm sure he'll give all the players every chance of proving their fitness
