Latics Phenomenal Support

The Wigan Athletic fans that were at Old Trafford on Saturday have been singled out for special praise by Latics boss Roberto Martinez

Although the Latics went down 4-0 to Manchester United, Martinez say's that the support from the travelling fans was phenomenal. All the noise in the stands was coming from the away 'corner' at Old Trafford and the Wiganers certainly out sang their hosts

Speaking to the Latics official website Martinez said - 'The fans were phenomenal and it was a real shame we couldn`t repay their support'

'We all felt empty at the end of the game because we wanted to give them a day to be really proud of their club.

'Their voice helped us in the first half when we had a massive role in the game and we need to learn how to build from that inspiration in the future.

'They were the reason we started and performed so well in the first half and it's a shame we couldn't give them what they deserved today.'

With Fulham due to visit the DW Stadium this weekend it's vital that the rousing support for the Latics continues to inspire the team, it's a while since we've beaten the Cottagers

Nice for the manager to give special mention

That's the whole thing with Martinez. He knows that the fans lift the players. These lads are our heroes. We need to constantly make them feel that way in any way we can. I shout my lungs out on match days.
