Burton Snap Up Latics Young Defender On Loan

Latics defender Rob Kiernan as joined League 2 outfit Burton Albion on a month's loan, he could go straight into the starting eleven for tomorrow's game against Northampton, Burton have just one fit centre back, if he does make the team, Kiernan will come face to face with his Latics team mate Lee Nicholls who is currently out on loan at the Cobblers.

Burton boss Gary Rowett is absolutely delighted to have captured Kiernan, even if it is just for one month, speaking to Burton official website Rowett said - 'Rob is somebody who I have looked at over the last couple of years and I've seen him play 5 or 6 times

'For me he has always been one I have earmarked for a potential loan signing. I asked about him in pre-season but Roberto Martinez felt that he was in his plans at the time.

'I chanced my arm the other day knowing that we needed a defender and they feel as if he's ready to go and play Championship football. But as we have a month of games and we know him and have seen a lot of him they are happy for him to come out to us.'

Good experience for Kiernan who went on loan to Accrington last season, unfortunately an injury cut short his number of games for Stanley and he made just 3 appearances for the Crown Ground outfit. Keirnan also recently skippered the Republic of Ireland under 21's

Latics boss Roberto Martinez is pleased that another one of his young players is getting some experience, the Latics boss said - "Rob will benefit massively from his time at Burton Albion, playing senior football for a good team in a very competitive league.

"We wish him the very best of luck and look forward to watching him in an exciting time of his career."
