Lawro Predicts - Latics v Everton

Mark Lawrenson has done his weekly round of Premier League predictions and there is no surprise that he has us down for another defeat, let's take a look at his reasons:

Wigan v Everton

This will be a tough game for Everton. Yes, they have made great start - they are playing well, scoring goals and their new signings are already bedding in - but that just means everyone expects them to go to the DW Stadium and win.

I don't think it will be as easy as that. Wigan did not do too much wrong against Sunderland but lost a tight game after having Jordi Gomez sent off and I think this will be another hard-fought encounter.

Some are looking at Wigan, seeing them struggle, and thinking this is the way it is going to be until the end of the season. Their boss Roberto Martinez was asked about it this week and insisted his side are not in a relegation battle.

Martinez won't want to admit it to his players but even the most myopic Wigan fan knows what their season is all about - because staying up has been what it has been all about for them for the past few seasons.

They will make things difficult for Everton but I still have to back David Moyes' side here. The Toffees have quality, but boy do they work hard too.

Prediction: 1-2

I agree with Lawro that it'll be a really tough game, but I feel we will just have enough to get the points, the last two seasons have seen very tight 1-1 draws at the DW between the Latics and Everton, another tight game this time but a 2-1 Latics win for me

We're a very different side to last seasons so I don't think you can take much from the recent results. Osman and Neville in front of the defence don't cover well we badly miss Gibson but going forward we're very strong down both flanks, and Pienaar, Fellaini and Mirallas have been far too good for a lot of teams we've come against. Should be a good game, all our matches our end to end these days.
