'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Latics Youngster Makes A Big Impression

Wigan Athletic defender Rob Kiernan appears to have made a very good impression on Burton Albion boss Gary Rowett during his months loan at the League 2 club.

The Republic of Ireland Under 21 international went to the Pirelli Stadium following injury to both Burton's first choice centre-backs, after what was described as a 'shaky' start in his first game against Northampton, Kiernan has really settled down to put in some great performances for the Brewers

In fairness to Kiernan he only signed for Burton on the Friday and was thrown straight into the starting line-up the following day for the Northampton game, but he quickly found his feet in League 2 and has gone on to play in all of the six games that Burton have faced during his loan spell

Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last game Kiernan will play for Burton before returning to the Latics, ironically it is against Bradford City who we face on Tuesday in the Capital One cup.

Speaking to the local press about Kiernan, Burton boss Gary Rowett is hopeful of getting the 21 year old back at some point this season, Rowett said - 'The initial plan was for a month to give Rob some games and then he was to go back to Wigan and play in the Capital One Cup for them'

'I've not actually spoken to Wigan yet but I'm pondering it.

'Rob has done brilliantly for us and I wouldn't hesitate to take him again further down the line if the circumstances were right.'

'You see a player who's got better and better'

'He's understood what it takes to be a defender in League Two and adapted well.

'The pace of the game is so quick. No-one gets a moment - I think you can hear the ball screaming sometimes!'

Looks like some first team action has given Kiernan some confidence
