Ivan Ramis Wonder Goal - Top Class!

Ivan Ramis Wonder Goal - Top Class!

What a fantastic strike! A worldy! Goal of the season! Top class! Just a few of the phrases that I've heard over the past 24 hours to describe Ivan Ramis' wonderful strike that gave the Latics the lead after 8 minutes in yesterdays Premier League clash with West Ham at the DW Stadium

With Jean Beausejour setting up to take a corner on the left, Ramis was jostling for space in the penalty box, what was obviously a training ground move, his Latics colleagues, Emmerson Boyce and Gary Caldwell made decoy runs taking defenders with them, Ramis feigned to the right and then moved smartly to the left shaking off defender Winston Reid. Beausejour sent over a wonderful cross, Ramis met the ball around the penalty spot and with a swivel he unleashed a thunderous left footed volley that gave Jaaskelainen no chance in the West Ham goal.

A brilliant goal for the classy defender who is settling into life at the Latics very well, Roberto Martinez is delighted with Ramis and say's he is getting stronger by the day

Speaking to Latics official Martinez said - 'His contact with the ball was perfect, as clean a strike as you'll see and he obviously enjoys scoring against West Ham.

'He's a leader, someone who is in the best moment of his career who has come here focussed on being successful and his communication with the rest of the team is getting stronger by the day.

'When he's enjoying his football like he did against West Ham he can be the complete defender and we're looking forward to seeing him doing so for the next few seasons.'

If he continues in the same vein that he has started his life at the Latics then without doubt Ramis will be a contender for player of the season come May
