It looks like Latics defender Antolin Alcaraz could be out until the New Year
The Paraguay international suffered a groin injury whilst away on international duty back in September and he hasn't played since
The 29 year old centre back missed a large chunk of games at the start of the last season and it would appear that there will be a repeat of that this time round, his last game was the Capital One cup tie at Nottingham Forest on the 28th August, Alcaraz was red carded in that match for two bookable offences, he missed the next game, Stoke at the DW through suspension and then suffered his injury the following week playing for Paraguay
Latics boss Roberto Martinez reports that the injury is quite a serious one and that Alcaraz will be out for another 5 to 6 weeks, Martinez said - 'Antolin's has been a long-standing condition since returning from Paraguay but we now know exactly what the problem is, which can sometimes be tricky with groin problems.
'Those soft-tissue injuries take time to heal and we need to be careful that he is only brought back when he is 100% and not risk his fitness further.
'To get there we're probably looking at five to six weeks before he can be brought back into the team and have a strong second-half to the season, I only want to bring him back when he is ready for it.'
Alcaraz out for a while yet
