Roger Espinoza Jets In For Latics Medical

Reports in the US are claiming that Honduras international and MLS side Sporting Kansas City midfield man, Roger Espinoza is set for a medical with the Latics on Wednesday

Sporting KC manager Peter Vermes said - 'He called and told me that he's basically decided that he's going to go to Wigan'

'It was a tough decision for him, but it's something that he wanted to do. He wanted a chance to play in the English Premier League, but he also wanted to thank me and the club for everything.'

The Latics will be able to sign Espinoza on a free transfer due to the expiry of his current deal with the MLS. The 26 year old was born in Honduras but moved to the US when he was 12 and subsequently became an American citizen, though he represents Honduras at international level and has 25 caps

Espinoza came to prominence during the summer when he starred alongside Latics defender Maynor Figueroa for the Honduras Olympic side, there was reported interest from both Everton and Newcastle and also from teams in Germany and Mexico, but it looks like we have got our man

The last word to Espinoza`s manager at Sporting KC, Vermes concludes - 'I told him I really appreciated his commitment to the club

'He's been a great guy on and off the field for us for several years. His growth as a player has been tremendous. I told him we're happy for him, but that the doors are open if things change in the future.'
