Wigan Athletic - Figueroa Out Of QPR Game

Wigan Athletic defender Maynor Figueroa has failed in his bid to get his red card, received at Newcastle on Monday, rescinded by the FA and will now miss Saturdays game against QPR at the DW Stadium

The sending off was very harsh in the eyes of many, it appeared that Figgy went shoulder to shoulder with Newcastle striker Papa Cisse as the pair raced towards the ball in the Latics penalty area, only for the Senegal international to fall to the ground, referee Mike Jones immediately blew and pointed to the spot, though he took a little time to pull out the red card.

Figueroa's ban leaves us a little short at the back for Saturday, Gary Caldwell was also booked against Newcastle and faces a one match suspension, the word is that Antolin Alcaraz is back in training, let's hope he is ready for a return to action

Speaking about the FA's decision not to rescind Figueroa's red card a philosophical Roberto Martinez said: 'We are disappointed, clearly, because we felt we put forward an excellent case. But we will draw a line under the incident, and continue our preparations for Saturday.'
