Latics v Arsenal Previous Meetings

Arsenal are in town on Saturday for the lunch time kick-off, they are fresh off their thumping of Reading on Monday night when they looked very good. Looking back down the years at previous meetings between the Latics and Arsenal it is fair to say that, in the 18 games between the two clubs, we don't have the best of records.

Latics 3 wins, Arsenal 13, draws 2

But, I know you shouldn't start a sentence with but, but it is a big BUT, when it mattered we pulled out the stops to gain our three victories. Who can forget the Carling Cup semi-final 1st leg at the DW Stadium in 2006, Paul Scharner's debut for the Latics, he scored the only goal of the game to set us up nicely for the return leg and a trip to the final

Or being 2-0 down at home in April 2010, looking all set for relegation, that is until we managed three goals in the final ten minutes, two of which came in the last minute of the game. Charles N'Zogbia's last gasp winner that day was a magnificent goal and worthy to win any match

The best victory over Arsenal though came towards the end of last season. Faced with a daunting run-in to get ourselves out of the quagmire the Latics turned on the style, we went to the Emirates on Monday 16th April 2012 and put in a truly fantastic performance, firstly Di Santo and then Gomez had us 2-0 up after just eight minutes, although Arsenal pulled a goal back we had control of the game and a solid team performance brought the three points back up to the North West on a truly memorable night

It should also be noted that we were Arsenals last opponents in a league game at their old Highbury stadium on the 7th May 2006, we went down 4-2 in what was a highly entertaining game and party atmosphere

Latics v QPR - Big Game Preview

An important game at the DW Stadium tomorrow for the Latics, Gary Caldwell will be hoping to banish the disappointment of conceding a 93 minute goal away at Forest last Saturday that saw a point slip away after coming from behind three times in the game.

QPR are in town, they aren't quite the multi-millionaires that they were the last time that we met, that was in the play off semi-final in 2014, but they do have a squad with lots of quality and will certainly pose a threat.
