Shaun Maloney Contract Extension Announced

The Latics have announced that star man Shaun Maloney has extended his contract with the club and he's signed a new deal that will keep him at the DW Stadium until 2015

Signed in August 2011 from Celtic, Maloney's Latics career was slow to get going, but since coming into the first team squad against Norwich last February, the Scotland international has been pivotal to our creative play and his importance to the side cannot be underestimated

Speaking to the clubs official website about Maloney extending his contract, delighted Latics boss Roberto Martinez said - 'We're delighted that Shaun has committed his future to the club. From the first day he arrived his professionalism and determination to succeed has been outstanding and an example for the younger members of the group to follow.

'Shaun is one of the most technically gifted British players that you will find, but on top of his style and footballing flair his work-rate and purpose in his performances make him a key member of our future at Wigan Athletic.

'I'm sure the fans are looking forward to watching him continue to enjoy his football at Latics for a long time.'
