Lawro Predicts - Chelsea v Latics

Mark Lawrenson has done his Premier League forecasting for the BBC and this week he sees the Latics returning from Saturdays trip to Stamford Bridge empty handed, let's take a look at his reasons:

Chelsea v Wigan

Wigan have drawn their last two games, after two late comebacks, but it is hard to see them picking up anything at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Let's not write the Latics off completely. Although they were beaten 8-0 in this fixture in 2010, they only lost in stoppage time last season.

But Chelsea are badly in need of a victory after failing to win any of their last four games, all on the road.

Blues fans keep screaming for Rafa Benitez's head but the clue is in his job title - interim manager - and there are bigger problems at that club.

I still think ultimately they will finish in the top four. They have so much quality in their squad and they have just been on a bad run. What I would worry about more if I was a Chelsea fan is what their owner Roman Abramovich is going to do next.

Prediction: 2-0

I'm afraid I have to agree with Lawro this week, although I'd love to say otherwise, but with our current form and also the problems in defence with the injuries etc I can see a bit of a beating for us on Saturday, Chelsea to win 3-0

The latest edition of the PWU Wigan Athletic podcast is now available for download.

This week in the studio are Barry, Dan, Gareth, Greg, Paul and Mick who discuss in detail the draw with Southampton (00:00), player performances and formations. The international break (19:25) is also discussed, fingers crossed that there are no injuries picked up.

There is a preview of Saturday's Premier League game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (21:40)

We finish off the proceedings with a difference of opinion on our survival chances this season, though I'm sure a couple of results either way and we'll all be in a little more agreement!
