Meet The Ref - West Brom v Latics - Lee Probert

Latics travel to West Brom on Saturday in what is a massive game that will undoubtedly go a long way in deciding the future of our club, it promises to be a good, if somewhat nervy game.

The man in the middle for this ultra important fixture is Gloucester official Lee Probert, fresh from his antics at Villa Park on Monday

The 39 year old official has taken charge of two Latics games this season, they both ended in 2-1 defeats, the first was at the hands of Fulham back in September at the DW Stadium, the other was away at Norwich in December

Probert was in charge of just two Latics games last season, both were away and yep you guessed we lost those as well, both ended in 3-1 defeat's, away at Wolves back in early November, during that game there was the infamous Alcaraz spit, which Probert missed, but the cameras didn't, the Latics defender ended up with a retrospective three match ban. The other game was at White Hart Lane at the end of January, precedents?

Probert first got interested in refereeing at the tender age of 16, he sat the exam and the rest, as they say, is history. He has now been a Premier League referee since 2007

Being top of the league didn't last long, did it? We'll leave that talk until May from now on. We drew 1-1 with a well-drilled Gillingham side.
