'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Meet The Ref - Latics v Villa - Neil Swarbrick

Latics take on Aston Villa in our last Premier League game for at least one season, and we'll be waving goodbye to the top flight as Preston based referee Neil Swarbrick waves the cards around in an attempt to spoil a good days footie, well hopefully not

The 42 year old whistle blower is in his second season as a top flight official having been promoted to the select group of referees back in June 2011, though his first top flight game was the season before when he took charge of the Fulham v Sunderland goalless draw in December 2010.

This will be just the second time he's refereed the Latics this season, the other occasion was our 2-1 home defeat by West Brom back in November

Swarbrick was a late comer to the woes of a referee and he only picked up his whistle at the age of 29, he started life off in the Northern Premier League before moving onto the Conference, making it to the Football League in 2005. Here's hoping for a good game from him to sign off with on Sunday
