'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Whelan Sends 'Hands Off' Message To Martinez

Dave Whelan has sent out a curt message to Goodison Park regarding members of the Wigan Athletic squad that are without doubt Premier League class

It's been widely speculated, reported and assumed that the new Everton boss Roberto Martinez will simply ring up the quality players within the Latics squad and tell them to report for preseason training at Finch Farm, Everton's training ground

Well the Latics owner has a short, sharp message for Senor Martinez, ...'we intend to keep them all'

Speaking to the press about the sole focus of the Latics being on a swift return to the top flight, Whelan made it clear that he expects interest from bigger clubs than Everton in his players, but re-iterated that the club intend to keep the squad together for a promotion push

Whelan said - 'I think a few more clubs besides Everton will be interested in our players but we intend to keep them all'

Over the next few days Whelan will be busy sorting through the applicants for the managers post at the Latics and he hopes to have someone installed by next week at the latest, Whelan said - 'On Sunday, the serious business starts. I`ve got interviews on Monday and through the week. I expect to have something sorted by the end of next week.'
