'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Killer' Battle drives on McCulloch

The Scottish International has been a regular face on the left side of the midfield, after switchingfrom striker to midfielder during Wigan's Division Two winning season.BR>
Since then McCulloch has had few left wingers to battle for his position with, something Jewell rectified when he laid out 2million for Everton left winger and Irish International Kevin Kilbane.

The Powerful Scot has been out of action for a month, with new recruit 'Killer' Kilbane taking McCullochs place in the team.

Yet despite currently losing his place in the team, the fans favourite told the official website: 'I think it's fantastic that the gaffer has brought the likes of Killer into the squad.'

'He's a quality international who has bags of Premiership experience, and that can only be good for the team.

'I think there can be room for both of us in the same team, we are two totally different types of players and although you'd say our number one positions are probably the same, football's all about adapting to circumstances.

'That happened to me when I switched from striker to midfield.'

It seems likely that Kilbane will start his third game in a row, with McCulloch only recently returnign to light training. However McCullochis hoping to play some part in Sundays Derby clash with Blackburn Rovers.

'I'd rather be at home than watch a game from the sidelines, but I always want the boys to do well, of course I do.

'But when I'm not involved I find it so difficult. Some of the boys can sit and watch but for me it's awful because I want to be involved so much.'
