'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wigan Athletic 12th Man - 06/09/13

This weeks Wigan Evening Post 12th Man feature has one contribution from Vital Latics:

Sad To See McCarthy Go

What an exciting game of football at the weekend, a 2-1 win, three points and Latics looking like a team on fire, in the first half especially

Forest rolled into town top of the table and with the pundits shouting their plaudits about Billy Davies' men, but in all honesty the Latics blew them away in the first forty-five with Roger Espinoza quite simply exceptional with his energy and dynamism in the midfield, What a game for our Roger making his first start of the new campaign

The manner of the win shows that the quality is in the squad to mount a serious challenge this season, another positive from Saturday was Thomas Rogne making his first start also, he looked a tower in our back line, keep him fit and I think we have found ourselves a gem there

Well the transfer window finally shut, as expected James McCarthy moved to Everton, I don't want to get into the whys and where for's of the timing of the move but would just like to wish him all the best in his future career

Young McCarthy is a cracking midfield player, but he is much more than that, he is an exemplary professional and a very nice unassuming young man, a definite role model if ever there was one. The way he has conducted himself since arriving at the Latics in the summer of 2009 has been a credit both to himself and his family, I have nothing but admiration for him, he will be sorely missed at the club and I most sincerely wish him all the best for his future in the game

On the incoming we were left a little bit flat, just two loan signings, though I am sure both will be successful at Championship level, I like many other Latics fans were hoping for at least one striker to be brought in to ease the burden of the long season on Holt and Fortune, with all the talk of a Jordan Rhodes bid excitement was high, but nothing materialised though I do believe we can still bring in loan players some maybe we haven`t quite finished on the incomings yet
