'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Jewell has Job for Life

The news that Jewell has committed himself to the club until 2010 is fantastic news for everyone associated with Wigan Athletic, and Wigan supremo Dave Whelan has told his manager he can stay with the JJB stadium outfit for as long as he wants.

Whelan told the Sunday Mirror: 'Paul Jewell is here for as long as he wants to stay.

'Paul has committed himself to the club for another four years. We're delighted with that because as far as we're concerned he is simply the best.'

The outspoken chairman has admitted that he won't stand in the way of Jewell if one of the big guns come in for him.

'If a big club came in for him and it was what he wanted, then I'd shake his hand, thank him for what he had done for Wigan Athletic, and I'd wish the guy all the best for the future.

'He's an absolute pleasure to work with. But I have this fear that another club will come in for him.'

Quite right too, he has been immense and he is the main reason that you guys are in the premiership, not just a great manager but also a great man.
