This weeks 12th Man feature in the Wigan Evening Post has one contribution from Vital Latics:
Goals, Goals, Goals!
Goals, goals, goals, where are they going to come from? Just the one scored in the last four games isn't a great statistic, Coyle says we keep knocking on the door and we're due to get a flood, trouble is we're knocking from too far out and not troubling the opposition keepers, in the last four games we have produced sixty-two attempts to score, but only ten of those efforts were on target.
Now either our shooting is woeful, which I wouldn't deny, or these attempts are in the main panic efforts from either angles or distances that are just not going to trouble the opposition, in honesty it is a bit of both.
We are not creating anything like enough clear cut chances, players striking out of frustration because there is no movement ahead of them, no real creativity coming from midfield and we break at such a pace we'd be lucky to hit a geriatric eleven on the counter attack.
Whatever we need to do to change this needs to happen sharpish, we are now into November and realistically should be settling down as a team. The defence is sound, we look solid and steady, but at what cost, the attacking fullbacks that we have been using for well over four years have disappeared from our play. Doubling up and flying forward to create decent chances as dried up, maybe we need a bit more freedom to players in certain positions and allow them to support the attack and become creative again like we know they can be.
I miss Boycey masquerading as a winger, charging forward, on the left we have the perfect player to pull this off, Jean Beausejour, naturally left footed and not afraid to get forward, but the shackles appear to be on Boyce and Beausejour spends most of the time sat on the bench
Come on Coyley, get those shackles off and let's have a go, from the start, Huddersfield are in town on Saturday, casting our mind back to last season we went up the M62 in the FA cup and simply swamped them with fast attacking football, they couldn't cope, how's about having a go this Saturday, don't be afraid and get at them, it's the only way we're going to win games
