The essential travel companion for all Wiganers travelling to the Rubin Kazan game this week, supplied by our very own russialatic:
As an elite loyal group of Latics fans make their way to Kazan for the game on Thursday, I thought it would be useful to put together a few phrases that might help them to communicate effectively with the locals. Given that the level of English in Russia is rapidly improving, I thought some more specific phrases might be particularly useful:
As a husband to a beautiful Russian wife myself, I predict the trip to Russia will no doubt leave many admiring the beauty of the locals, so these phrases will be particularly useful:
Nu zdrastvuyte krasayvitsa, ti mne ochen nravishsya, pochti takje kak mne nravitsya Wigan Athletic - Well, hello there, I like you very much, almost as much as I like Wigan Athletic.
U tebya krasivie sinii glaza kak futbolka u Wigan Athletic - You have beautiful blue eyes like a Wigan Athletic shirt.
Esli tebe povezet ya pokaju tebe Wigan pier - If you're lucky I'll show you Wigan pier.
V Wigan u nas samie lushchie pirojki na planete, kupi bileti. - In Wigan we have the best pies on the planet, go get your tickets.
Dealing with Russian hospitality
Russians are extremely proud of their warm hospitality so it's important not to offend and to say the right things at the right times. These phrases will help:
Da u vas ochen vkusnaya vodka no pojaluysta ostav'te menya v pokoe. - Yes, you have very tasty vodka but please leave me alone.
Net spasibo, mi edinstveny klub kotory ne ishet oligark u nas est dyadya Dave. No menya nujen novaya mashina. - No thanks, we're the only club that isn't looking for an oligarch, we've got our Uncle Dave. But I could do with a new car.
Esli chesno mne ne ochen nravitsya Kazan no eto lushche chem Bolton. - If I'm honest I don't really like Kazan but it is nicer than Bolton.
Making yourself understood in the stadium.
As football fans have much lower intelligence than ordinary people, the level of English around the stadium is likely to be especially poor, so these phrases should help things to run smoothly:
Ti moy solnichny svet. - You are my sunshine.
Mi jivem v Wigan I nashi doma sdelany iz gryazi. - We come from Wigan and we live in mud huts.
Beregi to chto u nas est. - Hang on to what we've got.
Ya veruyushy! - I'm a believer!
Vi tolko prishli iz za Wigan. - You're only here coz it's Wigan.
And hopefully one phrase you won't need.
Gde Espinoza? - Where's Espinoza?
Enjoy the trip!
A chance to win return travel to Maribor and match tickets for the Latics final Europa League group game and help raise funds and awareness for Joseph's Goal
Joseph's Goal is a fantastic cause, a charity that has been adopted by Wigan Athletic and a large number of the Latics supporters have rallied round with some very inventive fund raising schemes and ideas, there were the runners who took part in the Wigan 10K for Joseph's Goal, the recent bike ride to Blackpool, a Ghost Hunt and many, many more fund raisers
Of course the Vital Latics coaches that travelled to Wembley three times and to Bruges for the Europa League game held raffles and on board quizzes and raised close to £3,000 and that is where the latest idea has risen from
A chance to win a pair of package tickets that include return transfers from Wigan to Manchester Airport, return flight from Manchester to Maribor, transfers from Maribor airport to the ground and back, plus match tickets which have been reserved courtesy of Wigan Athletic
