'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McManaman On England Radar For World Cup

England manager Roy Hodgson has given Latics star Callum McManaman a timely boost as the flying wide man starts to find full fitness and rediscover last seasons form

The England Under 21 international was sensational in the closing stages of last season, he gave a man of the match performance in the FA cup final and tore opponents Manchester City to pieces with his direct running, pace and great control, as the Latics won the cup

Unfortunately McManaman suffered a nasty ankle injury against Arsenal in the game after the cup final, he missed most of the preseason as a consequence, he's also had a stop start opening to this campaign due to injury and suspension and has only started to get back to his old self recently, this has coincided with a run in the staring eleven over the past three games

With Hodgson openly admitting that there are places up for grabs in the England World cup squad and that McManaman is definitely on the radar this is a great boost not only for the player but also for the club, a trip to Brazil is great incentive for McManaman and to have the 22 year old rampaging down the wing for the rest of the season would be a fantastic asset to the Latics promotion charge.

Speaking to the media England boss Roy Hodgson said - 'I can't honestly say I've got 18 names stamped with five more to come. There is a lot that can happen between now and May

'We've got a few on the fringes who we look at, like Callum McManaman.

'We were talking about him the other day. He was flying for Wigan at the end of last season and then he got that unfortunate injury, so he's one we'll have a look at.

'We have been following his progress.

'There are certain players like that who aren't out of our radar.

'I would be lying if I didn't say he has a lot to do (to make the World Cup squad), but it is certainly not impossible.'
