Meet The Ref - Latics v Bolton - Kevin Friend

Latics play Bolton tomorrow and an old friend will be dropping by the DW Stadium to take charge of the game, usually found in the Premier League at the weekend, first class referee and former postman, Kevin Friend will be blowing his whistle come 3pm tomorrow

The last time the Leicester official took charge of a Latics game was earlier this season when we visited the Etihad Stadium for a Capital One cup tie and were on teh wrong end of a 5-0 tonking from Manchester City

The 41 year old took charge of five Latics games last season, he was in charge of our game against Everton at home (2-2) back in October, he also refereed us against Liverpool away (3-0), Villa away (0-3), our FA cup 6th round win away at Everton (0-3) in March and the Swansea (2-3) game at the DW Stadium in the week leading up to the FA cup final

Friend has been refereeing since he was just 13 and made the grade all the way to the top when on 20th September 2009 he took charge of the Premier League game between Wolves and Fulham.

The former Postman said about his appointment to the big league - 'I'm chuffed to bits and really thrilled'

'It is also a big challenge because it will be completely different to what I'm used to.
,br>'There's a lot of pressure in the Premier League and there's a lot of money involved. I've been fourth official at all the big venues, but being out there in the middle will be a totally new experience.

'My promotion means I'm now full-time which allows me to concentrate solely on the football.'
