Ali Al Habsi Steps In For Injured Scott Carson

The appearance of Ali Al Habsi on the team sheet on Saturday raised a few eye brows as the Oman international came in for his first appearance of the season following a shoulder operation during the summer

Latics goalkeeper Scott Carson picked up a thigh strain in the lead up to the game at Reading and, although admitting that he was a little short of match practice, boss Uwe Rosler says he had no qualms throwing Al Habsi into the firing line considering his experience and quality

Latics number 26 didn't let his manager down, producing two cracking saves he was instrumental in his team gaining the win and taking the three points back home

Speaking to Latics official website Uwe Rosler explained the inclusion of Al Habsi in the team, Rosler said - 'Ali was a late call up and hasn't had enough game time since coming back from such a serious injury, so it was a bit of a gamble to put him in but I know he has the experience and quality to guide him through a game like that one.

'His sharpness has been getting better and better in training and his timing was very good today in knowing when to come off the line, so I thought he produced a very good performance.'
