Meet The Ref - Boro v Latics - Michael Naylor

Latics travel up to the North East on Tuesday to face Middlesbrough in the Championship, the man charged with keeping the peace will be Sheffield based official Michael Naylor.

This will only be Naylor's second time in charge of a Latics game, he was in charge of our game with QPR at the DW Stadium back at the end of October, no goals and no cards that day, he has been on the National List of referees for over five years now and in that time he has gained a reputation for keeping games flowing.

Not one to flash the cards willy nilly, in his five years refereeing in the Football League Naylor has only issued ten reds, now you can look at this in one of two ways, either he lets things go and misses a lot, or he is on top of the action, can defuse potential flash points and referees with common sense, let's hope it is the latter.
