What The Boss Said - Middlesbrough 0 Latics 0




Following last nights goalless draw at the Riverside Stadium between the Latics and Middlesbrough, both bosses spoke to the media about the game, let's take a look at what they had to say:

Latics boss Uwe Rösler - 'We should have won the game.

'We were the stronger team, especially in the second half and the only chances Middlesbrough had, came from them capitalising on the one or two mistakes we made.

'Middlesbrough are a very good footballing side, but they didn't cause us any real problems.

'However, I thought we started the game too slowly and although we thought we looked good we are a side that is more dangerous when we speed up the play.

'The boys responded to a slow first half by coming out and playing much quicker after the break, but it felt as though we wasted those first 45 minutes.

'We'll take the point and focus now on Charlton Athletic this weekend, aiming to preserve our strong home record, playing with more urgency.

'If we want to gain promotion to the Premier League this season then we need to start games a lot better than we did against Middlesbrough, and force ourselves to play a higher tempo.

'When we do that things will go our way and we are a much better side.'

Boro boss Aitor Karanka - 'The game was not a good one for us

'It was difficult as Wigan are a good team.'

'We did not play with personality and we did not do enough to win the game'

'But when you cannot win a game it is important that you do not lose it.'


Middlesbrough defender Rhys Williams suffered a nasty Achiles injury whilst stretching for the ball in the first half, the Australia international was stretchered off and it doesn`t look good as far as the World Cup is concerned for the 25 year old

On Williams Karanka said - 'They will check him and we will know more soon but it looks like a very serious injury for Rhys'

'His face and the doctor's face were not good. He was crying and I feel sympathy for him.

'It is very bad injury for him. I hope he will recover as soon as possible because he had a big chance to play in the World Cup so that will be a big incentive for him.

'All our feelings are with him, mine, the team's, the staff's. He will get all the support we can give him.'

Williams missed the 2010 World Cup in South Africa due to injury, so all our best wishes from Vital Latics go to him for a speedy recovery and hopefully he'll make the finals.
