Latics and Charlton have only met on five occasions competitively, four of which have been in the Premier League, the other coming back in October in the Championship. The first meeting was on the 20th August 2005, the last coming on the 31st March 2007, both at the Valley.

Four of the five previous meetings have been won by the home side giving the clubs two victories apiece, the fifth one was a draw at the Valley.
