'If It's Football, It's Vital'

What The Bosses Said - Latics 2 Charlton 1

Latics came from going a goal behind after just three minutes to beat Charlton in the Championship at the DW Stadium on Saturday. Marvin Sordell capitalised on a mistake in the Latics defence to put the Addicks in front and it took the Latics until the last two minutes of the game to firstly find an equaliser through Mac-Antoine Fortune, then win all the points in the 90th minute with Jordi Gomez's great free kick.

At the end of the game a highly delighted Uwe Rösler and hugely disappointed Chris Powell spoke to the media, let's take a look at what they said:

Latics boss Uwe Rösler - 'I had considered starting Jordi from the beginning today but changed my mind at the last minute.

'He wanted to start so was obviously disappointed not to be in the starting eleven, but what fantastic professionalism he showed when he came on.

'It says a lot about him that he came off the bench and gave everything he had to help us not only get back into the game, but win it as well.

'I have to admit that I wasn't 100% convinced that we would find the breakthrough; I thought it was going to be one of those days when we had total domination but couldn't open the door.

'We had 28 attempts on goal but only seven were on target, which clearly shows the area we need to improve in.

'But I have to pay big compliments to my players, because we chased the game in the right manner and the substitutions in the second half really lifted us and helped us to turn the game around.

'I'm really happy for them because these are the games we need to dig deep in to get something out of it, and they did that.

'I think there might have been someone looking down on us today to help as well and make sure we got a little bit of justice in the end, especially after having a perfectly good goal disallowed at the start of the second half.

'Nicky Maynard was clearly onside when he found the back of the net, and he more than anyone needs a goal right now to reward the hard work he has put in for us since joining. It's difficult to understand why the linesman ruled it out, but thankfully we got the three points in the end.'

Charlton boss Chris Powell - 'It's tough to take'

'It was such a brave performance, we put our bodies on the line.

'Being 1-0 up for so long, and having put in a performance that was so committed and diligent, it looked like it was going to be our day.

'When it gets to that stage of the game, you're looking to just see it out.

'Sadly it wasn't to be. And it's the way it's going for us at the moment.

'It hurts. My dressing room is hurting, and so are the supporters.

'But we've got to remain steadfast and we've got to remain together, because that is the only way forward.'

'I can't fault any of the lads. Coming to a difficult place like this, an ex-Premier League side, with plenty of Premier League quality, it's not easy.

'I thought my lads acquitted themselves well, considering the amount of players who had never played in the Championship before.

'But it's got to be right to the end. And I hope all of them learn from the experience.'

Must admit I did feel a little for Charlton at the end but I was so glad we got the points
