Latics Transfer News, Gossip And Latest Rumours

Latics are being linked with a few players at the moment, but no deals struck as of yet, though we have had one departure.

Below are the latest links and topics of conversation across the tabloids and message boards:

Outs

Jordi Gomez ended any speculation about signing a new contract at the DW Stadium by penning a three year deal at Sunderland, the lure of Premier League football and a more lucrative financial package were too much to turn down for the 29 year old, so after five years service Gomez moves on.

Incomings

George Saville spent last season on loan at Brentford from Chelsea, initially signed for the Bees by Uwe Rösler the 21 year old had a great season in League 1, the midfield man would command a small fee, he has a year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge. Both the Latics and Leeds are reportedly interested.

Cardiff City left back Andrew Taylor is a player that has been linked with the Latics for the past week, the 27 year old former Middlesbrough defender has a wealth of experience and played in over 40 matches the season Cardiff won promotion from the Championship in 2012/13.

"James Tavernier at right back will be ideal: 22 years old, £300k price tag, Free-kick and long range shooting specialist"

HAVE YOUR SAY
James Tavernier a young right back from Newcastle is reportedly close to joining the Latics according to the Huddersfield Examiner, the newspaper claims that we are ready to do a deal for £300,000, Tavernier starred for Rotherham last season as they gained promotion to the Championship via the League 1 playoffs.

Hull City have released striker Matty Fryatt, the Latics, along with a few other Championship clubs are being linked with a move for the hard working striker. Fryatt played alongside Martyn Waghorn at Leicester in the 2009/10 season and they formed a great on field relationship as Leicester were unlucky to lose in the Championship playoff semi finals on penalties.

Osasuna midfield man Raoul Loe is a name that has been loosely mentioned with the Latics, the defensive midfielder is available following his clubs relegation from La Liga and the 25year old Cameroon international is apparently attracting interest from ourselves, Cardiff and Fulham.

Loan Deals

It looks like Uwe Rösler will be exploiting the loan market once again, we are already being linked heavily with three possible loanees Alex Pritchard from Spurs and Manchester United duo Nick Powell and Jesse Lingard.

Attacking midfield man Alex Pritchard spent last season on loan at League 1 side Swindon Town, he made 43 appearances for the Robins scoring 8 goals, the 21 year old is highly regarded at Spurs but they are willing to allow him out on loan to aid his development, word is that this deal is close to being finalised.

Nick Powell spent the whole of the last campaign on loan at the Latics and he ended the season has the clubs top scorer, Manchester United are believed to be willing to allow Powell out again, though there is reported interest from Premier League clubs Leicester, Swansea and Everton.

Uwe Rösler is a big admirer of Powell and is understood to have already contacted United about the possibility of another year at the DW Stadium for the 20 year old.

Jesse Lingard is another player that Rösler is attempting to bring in during the summer, no stranger to the Championship having spent time last season on loan at both Birmingham and Brighton, Lingard is a goalscoring midfield player hitting the net 9 times in 28 appearances last term, not a bad return for the Warrington born 21 year old.

New Contracts

It was reported during the week that we had offered a new deal to club captain Gary Caldwell, by all accounts the contract offer is less wages than what he has been on, but that is only to be expected with us being out of the Premier League and Caldwell only playing a handful of games over the past two seasons due to his hip injury.
