12th Man - Up And Running

This weeks Wigan Evening Post 12th Man feature has one contribution from Vital Latics:

We're Up And Running

Well we got our first win of the season under our belt on Saturday, a one nil gets you the same reward as a four or five goal rout, three points, despite creating numerous golden chances to give the scoreline that emphatic ring a win is a win.

It was a relief to see Oriol Riera get off the mark, he looks a quality player, a sweet left footed strike into the bottom far corner was a real goalscorers finish, hopefully the first of many from our new number 9.

Blackpool weren't up to much, but as the old adage goes - you can only beat what's in front of you. We played some delightful stuff in parts, McManaman was very good, linking well with Riera, the supply from midfield and down the flanks from the wingbacks was much better than in previous games, we look like we are starting to click.

The transfer window shuts next Monday, there is talk of players arriving and maybe one or two set to leave, it is important to keep the balance of the squad and we are all aware of the areas that need tweaking, keeping our quality and making the right additions will set us up for a great season ahead.

One swallow doesn't make a summer as one win doesn't make a season, but it was a start and we are now off and running, we have a great opportunity to add to this on Saturday when Birmingham are at the DW Stadium, another determined display utilising our strengths should see us take the points.

This week the podcast crew look back at the Blackpool game, good performances throughout the team. Oriol Riera off the mark and it could quite easily have been a rout.

James McArthur, Adam Forshaw, Ivan Ramis and Andy Delort, leaving staying, coming? Who knows, we don't!

There is a preview of the Birmingham game at the weekend, can we build on the three points from Saturday?

We finish off with a special plea from Dan for a special project at the National Football Museum involving your unwanted Panini cards.

Saturday 11th October, DW Stadium to Haigh Hall and back to the DW, in aid of Alder Hey Children's Charity

Who is Tilly? My granddaughter that's who and it's thanks to Alder Hey that she, and many other local kids are running around today, help us to give something back.
