Latics Defensive Crisis

Wigan are facing a defensive crisis ahead of the trip to Manchester United tomorrow.

Stephane Henchoz is suffering from a thigh strain he picked up in the game against Chelsea and is doubtful for the United game.

Arjan De Zeeuw is still having problems with the knee injury he suffered against Liverpool and is doubtful for tomorrow but may be OK for the Charlton game at the weekend.

Steve McMillan had and operation on cartilage in his knee and will be out for a few weeks.

Emerson Thome fractured his cheekbone in the game against Newcastle and is still a few weeks away from playing.

David Wright is still out on loan at Norwich could be recalled if required, I would expect him to be recalled for the upcoming cup matches anyway unless we sign another couple of defenders in January.

This leaves us with only Baines, Jackson, Chimbonda and Taylor as recognised defenders. Chimbonda has played in the centre of defence with previous clubs so I would expect him to cover there and Taylor to replace him at right-back. Francis, Kavanagh and Skoko could also be called upon in an emergency.
