Jewell says Legalise Diving

In an interview with Sky Sports, Jewell said: 'I may be the only person in the world who believes this, but why don't we allow it?

'People say it is cheating, but you ask any supporter and if one of our players goes down in the box and we need a penalty to stay in the league or win a cup. Do you know what they are going to say? It will be the same as Man United fans, Liverpool fans, Chelsea fans and chairman: Go down.

'At the end of the day I might get lambasted for that, but that's the way it is. I hate diving, but if it is in the game and if you allow it it will go away on its own and people will stop talking about it.

Jewell is an honest, straightforward and open-minded man. He deserves credit for it.

i think it will open a huge amount of worms if you legalise it.. i can't see the point personally or the benefit and it is a silly thing to say, then again alot of managers say silly things, look at martin jol.

When referees have the b*lls to give a penalty when a player gets fouled in the box and stays on his feet, then I'll say that players should get booked for diving. I'm personally sick of the hypocrisy you get from the likes of Wenger, Mourinho, Redknapp etc. when they get a penalty awarded against them - If a defender trails a leg or mis-times a lunge in the box, then he cannot expect the attacking player not to go to ground. It's the referee's responsibility to make the decision, but don't crucify players for 'going to ground too easily' - they won't get what they deserve by staying on their feet! Full marks to Paul Jewell for an honest opinion which has some merit!

'Credit for it'! He's saying people should be rewarded for trying to con a referee!!! It's cheating and deserves a straight red in my opinion!
