Wigan to sign Aghahowa

The move is subject to the Shakhtar Donetsk forward being granted a work permit, but all being well The Latics will tie up a deal early next week.

Aghahowa has long been linked with a move to England after starring performances for Shakhtar in Europe.

Wigan have now turned to the player as the club bid to find a winning formula and arrest the Premiership slump that has seen slip perilously close to the relegation zone.

The signing of Aghahowa would follow hot on the heels of Paul Jewell's capture of another striker, former Chesterfield powerhouse Caleb Folan, ahead of Wednesday's transfer deadline.

Who? and a lad from Chesterfield.... not enough for a relegation fight I feel. You will need the players to perform like last season to survive.
