It's Official: Gavin Massey is a 'Tic
After a week of teasing and tempting, Gavin Massey has finally been unveiled as a Wigan Athletic player.
The forward slash wingman, who recently departed Leyton Orient, was presumably waiting for a gap in Paulie Cook's ram-jammed diary in order to sign for Latics on a two-year deal.
Speaking to wiganathletic.com, the club's newest recruit explained he was looking forward to the DW Stadium's hi-tech canteen with 'bin lids' and pie barms (probably):
'The facilities here are incredible and not what I am used to, which makes me hungry to get going here. I am looking forward to playing against Liverpool now; it's going to be a great occasion against some top-class players.'
Massey snaffled 8 goals in 36 appearances for the O's last season, but could not prevent them finishing bottom of League Two. Although his contract explicitly stated there were two more years on his three-year deal, this was presumably run through the blender by that big bad relegation thing.
Sorry, I'm not supposed to mention the R word. I'll put myself in time out for that misdemeanour.
Anyway, Massey joins Will Grigg and Omar Bogle in the Latics attack stable, though he's keen to stress he ain't no striker:
'I am a wide man by trade and I like to create a spark down the wing by getting at the full-backs. My job is to assist the boys and hopefully grab a few myself; the quality we have here it shouldn't be so hard.'
However, it's thought Cook's first words to Massey were along the lines of 'so can you play in goal?'
