Wigan star`s gamble paid off!

Wigan star`s gamble paid off!

Will Grigg says he was never likely to miss his golden opportunity to score against Manchester City.

The Northern Irishman has always backed his ability to score goals, and when it came down to the one on one with Claudio Bravo, he wasn`t going to pass up the chance of making history. He told Wigan Today:

'I sort of gambled and found myself in a foot race with Kyle Walker, which is not exactly ideal. He is probably the quickest player on the pitch but my first touch took him out of the game. Then I`ve always said if I get chance to score goals... I managed to find the bottom corner, which was an unbelievable feeling.'

Our number nine was remarkably calm when he latched on to Walker`s error and closed-down on City`s goal. Time almost stood still as he took a moment to think, made his decision, and slotted the ball in the bottom right hand corner of the goal.

His sixteen goals in all competitions this campaign have been invaluable, but the remarkable thing is seven of those have come in the FA Cup. He is the competition`s top scorer heading into the quarter final stage.

We do have five games before we entertain Southampton in the 6th Round though, starting with a home game against Rochdale - who had their own battle against Premier League opposition last time out.

Keith Hill`s 2-2 draw against Spurs will mean they will also be heading into the match on a high. We need to show the same sort of energy, quality and desire on Saturday as we did against City. We need to recover from those two damaging losses, and with our team in such confident mood after our triumph on Monday, I`m expecting a good result.
