Wigan`s 'Complete` Midfielder Deserves All the Plaudits
Noel Hunt has praised Nick Powell as being the "complete footballer" following his impressive performance in the draw against Blackburn at the weekend.
Our no.25 was in the thick of the action during the remarkable second half comeback, moving into central midfield to replace Max Power. Speaking to Wigan Today, his team mate lauded his ability:
"Powelly`s right up there. He does things in training all the time, you see the tricks he has. But he`s got everything you need to be a complete footballer."
The attacking midfielder has been absolutely integral to our promotion challenge, and his contribution to Michael Jacobs` goal was crucial to get ourselves back into the match at Ewood Park. His cross was helped on by substitute James Vaughan who directed into the path of the goalscorer.
Powell had already moved to a deeper position following our manager`s decision to gamble by replacing Nathan Byrne with Vaughan, but the more offensive formation really paid off with the latter`s part in the first goal.
Although the playmaker was taken off with ten minutes to go, with the team looking satisfied with a point, his ability to affect games for us this season has been almost unparalleled. 12 goals and three assists in League One have been vital in sustaining our form near the top of the table.
Even when played somewhat out of position on Sunday, he stepped up to the mark, and all credit to him for making another telling contribution to the team. As Hunt has said, his trickery and guile on the ball is delightful to watch, and hopefully he can now help us finish the job by securing an automatic promotion place this season. Following the point he helped us win at Blackburn, I am far more confident that will happen.
