On Sunday the Latics will go into battle with General Warnock and his team of blades.
The location will be Bramall Lane Sheffield, the prize at stake the Golden Goose.
Under the leadership of Jewell this season his troops have floundered on the big occasion, this is his one last chance to get it right.
The build up and preparation during the week will be almost as important as what happens on the day itself.
Jewell must instil a sense of belief in his team that`s been sadly missing of late.
He must be calm, assured and purposeful, his tactics for the battle have to be right and he needs to take advice from his war council to ensure this is so.
The men in blue need to be prepared well, they need to have strength of character, if they get knocked down and fall behind then they pick themselves up, dust down and go on attack with all guns blazing.
It won`t be a pretty, romantic battle, it will be a tense affair, maybe ugly and brutal, but Jewell will have to lead his troops to victory in this the last battle of a long fought out war.
There have been mercenaries in the Wigan camp this year, they are not needed, they will run and hide if the going gets tough.
This is a battle for men with big hearts, brave and honest who will spill blood and fight till they can`t fight any more.
On Sunday there will be only one victor in the battle of Bramall Lane, let that be Wigan.
As Lord Admiral Nelson said:
'May the Great God, whom I worship, grant to my Team, and for the benefit of Football in general, a great and glorious victory; and may no misconduct, in anyone, tarnish it, and may Wigan Athletic after victory be a predominant feature in the Premier League.'
