Latics Hunt Hyypia

Wigan Athletic are one of a number of clubs hoping to secure the signature of Liverpool and Finland centre-half Sami Hyypia.

The 33 year old was signed for Liverpool in the summer of 1999 from Dutch club Willem II, by Gerrard Houllier.

In his first season at Liverpool he played along side former Latic Stefan Henchoz.

At 6`3`` he is a commanding figure and would be seen as an ideal replacement for DeZeeuw

Hyypia played 274 Premier league games for Liverpool, making 34 appearances in all competitions last season.

The Latics face stiff competition for the vastly experienced player with Newcastle, Bolton and Manchester City reportedly keen on his signature.

Should Hyypia be the type of player Latics chase this summer?

Personally I think it would be a fantastic signing if we could get him, but I think it's a big IF.
