Wigan Drive Jag Deal

Latics chairman Dave Whelan is using his financial muscle to take on Everton in the race for Sheffield United skipper Phil Jagielka reports the Daily Mirror

Whelan has spoken to the Blades and has told them he will outbid the Goodison Park club and is willing to offer £5million to get his man.

Everton would be Jagielka`s choice over the Latics, but the Toffee men are stalling over the fee.

There is a release clause in Jagielka`s contract set at £4.5 million which Everton have not yet met.

With the Latics prepared to go beyond this figure with an immediate £5 million bid there could be some hope in Jagielka at least coming to the JJB for talks.

Sheffield United are already lining up Jagielka`s replacement and are contemplating a bid for West Brom`s Jason Koumas

Will this be another Andy Johnson fiasco?

This could turn into the Andy Johnson fiasco of last summer, he wants Everton and not us, so lets not get our hopes raised.
